Weymouth Watersports are aware that not everyone is in a position to own their own equipment and some would like to give it a go before buying.

Our kayaks are fun to paddle and suitable for all abilities.

Because our kayaks are sit on top kayaks, it means that if the very worst happens and you capsize, it's not a problem because you won't get stuck and you can climb straight back on.

Wetsuits, spray tops and dry bags will be available if you do not have your own.

All that you will need to bring along is a pair of wetsuit boots or a pair of shoes you don't mind getting wet.

Nestling behind the spectacular Chesil Beach, part of the Jurassic Coast,, is the Fleet Lagoon, part of the Fleet nature reserve - one of Weymouth and Portland's most attractive natural features, certainly it's most unique.

This is a natural World Heritage Site with amazing geological and geomorphological interest, including a stop to visit the Chesil Bank on foot, a fantastic example of a barrier beach.

Our tour guides are all local to the area and are passionate about sharing their intimate knowledge of this special place.

All our kayak tours of Weymouth and Portland are run on a half day basis with groups of up to eight per guide.

The tours will be routed depending on the weather conditions of the day and Weymouth Watersports reserves the right to cancel any tour, at any time, if we feel that it is not safe to proceed.

The Fleet lagoon is the largest saline lagoon in the UK and one of North Western Europe 's most important marine nature reserves, the Fleet lagoon is home to many marine and animal species, including some rare varieties. A visit to the Fleet lagoon makes the perfect day out for those wishing to learn more about the indigenous wildlife, spot a rare bird or just wishing to spend some time away from the hustle and bustle of a crowded town and beach; the Fleet Nature Reserve offers something for every age group.

You can explore the Lagoon by Kayak; this gives you the advantage of being able to get closer to the wildlife without disturbing it. We are locals who have spent many years learning about the many unique features of the Chesil Beach and Fleet lagoon. With a little bit of pride we will share with you what we know, and act as your guides on this unique experience.

What you get to see and do

On Chesil Bank there is a little tern colony. This can be viewed from May – July the earlier the better. Don't forget your camera.

This is a World Heritage site, so there loads of archaeological interests, including a stop to visit the Chesil Bank on foot.

Our Safari's last for approximately four hours and the times are determined by the tide on the day.

Typically 5-6.5m (16½-21ft) long and only 40-50 cm (16-20") wide, surfski are extremely fast when paddled on flat water (only an Olympic K1 or K2 kayak is faster) and the fastest paddled craft available over a long distance on ocean swells. They track well but are less maneuverable and have less transverse primary and secondary stability than shorter, wider craft. Despite its typical instability, a surf ski (with an experienced paddler) is a very effective craft for paddling in big surf. Its narrowness and length helps it cut or punch through large broken waves. Double bladed paddles, often with highly contoured wing blades are used for extra efficiency

They are sometimes confused for the waveski. This is a type of short sit on kayak similar to a surf board, used primarily in surf play. It is usually less than 3m (10ft) long, typically with a wide planing type bottom and with one to three fixed skegs, or fins.

Surfski are used worldwide for surf kayaking and for training and competition on flat-water or ocean (downwind) racing. They were at first popular in Australia, California, Hawaii, and South Africa but it is fast becoming a very popular sport here in the UK.
